Integrative End-of-Life Doula Services

Bridging the gap between medical hospice and deep personal comfort by supporting the creation of your beautiful transition, which helps transform fear into peace, isolation into connection, and indifference into honor.

Image-Asset.png

Entering the final chapter of life requires a delicate balance of structured planning and fluid, compassionate presence. This care model treats this precious time as a deeply personal and profound threshold. Non-medical transition planning is seamlessly integrated with evidence-informed comfort modalities, including clinical hypnotherapy for stress reduction, Reiki for energetic alignment, and custom sensory elements to support both the individual and loved ones within the home.

Below is a comprehensive breakdown of how your care is structured across our three pathways, followed by core practice standards and timeline examples, leading with the urgent crisis response care for families facing an immediate timeline. More information can be found on the EOLD FAQs page.

1 | The Immediate Response Vigil  (Urgent Care Retainer)

An emergency, high-intensity comfort offering specifically designed for families facing an unexpected, rapid, or sudden end-of-life timeline occurring within a 1-week window.

The 7-day Crisis Care Layout & Time Allotments

This specialized retainer bypasses long-term planning to deliver up to 15 hours of rapid-deployment, face-to-face bedside support within a compressed 7-day contract window.

Immediate Tier B: Active Vigil Phase (No Waiting Period)

  • The Rapid Trigger: This package activates immediately upon contract signing and verification of crisis status. Standard business hours and off-site planning days are entirely suspended.

  • Daily/Weekly Allotment: The Doula dispatches to the home or facility for intensive care blocks lasting up to 2.5 to 6 hours per day as needed, until 15-hours is fulfilled.

  • Core Activities: Immediate stabilization of the bedside environment; real-time crisis education for family members; rapid-succession legacy curation (e.g., immediate audio recordings or verbal message capturing); and somatic and/or sensory comfort.

Weekly Rhythm Protocols

  • On-Site Strategy: Available for physical dispatch any day of the week (Monday through Sunday) to accommodate the compressed timeline.

  • Off-Site Strategy: Limited strictly to immediate, real-time coordination with the attending medical hospice team or hospital staff.

  • Communication Response Window: Calls and texts from the primary family caregiver receive top-priority with a response target of under 30 minutes, 24/7, during the active 7-day contract window.

Premium Holistic Modality Protocols

Because of a rapid timeline, the integrated comfort modalities (Clinical Hypnotherapy and Reiki) are deployed immediately for maximum benefits:

  • Time Caps: Capped at a maximum of two (2) hours of total combined application within any single 24-hour period.

  • Recipient Allocation: Heavily focused on regulating the nervous systems of the Client. Client may share one wellness experience with a family member or caregiver.

  • Professional Autonomy: The Doula retains sole professional discretion to adapt these non-medical modalities to match the recipient's immediate physical or emotional state.

The Doula will guide a rapid-capture audio and/ or video legacy session if the client is still conversational and able. (5.5 hours used)

  • Day 3 (Intensive Vigil & Comfort Care – On-Site) 3-hour bedside vigil. Comfort-focused hypnotherapy or guided imagery and Reiki for energetic alignment, helping to gently harmonize the body’s subtle energy and ease the spiritual release. Client may request a group session with family members or caregiver to provide emotional grounding. (8.5 hours used)

  • Day 4 (Active Passing Support – On-Site): 4-hour continuous bedside vigil block. Present through the final active passing window, maintaining environmental anchoring, managing sensory comfort, holding space for the family and insulating them from outside disruptions. (12.5 hours used)

2 | The Transition Pathway (Scheduled Support)

A personalized non-medical package providing scheduled bedside presence, family guidance, legacy work, emotional and spiritual care, and coordination throughout the transition.

Your Transition Pathway Includes:

The 30-Day Care Layout & Time Allotments

To accommodate the unpredictable nature of decline, your care is broken into two distinct phases:

Tier A: Stable / Gradual Decline Phase

  • Focus: Advanced planning, early wellness experiences, legacy building, and steady emotional support.

  • Daily/Weekly Allotment: Visited 1 to 3 times per week, with sessions lasting 1 to 2 hours each.

  • Core Activities: Compiling your Advanced Care Roadmap; integrating an early wellness experience; capturing personal values for your Ethical Will; and starting Legacy Curation (family letters, audio/video recordings, and memory books).

Tier B: Active Transition Phase

  • Focus: Active bedside presence and emotional support.

  • Daily/Weekly Allotment: Visits increase in frequency up to daily, ranging from 2 to 3 hours per session until the transition or 30-hour contract is fulfilled.

  • Core Activities: Somatic and sensory comforting; family education on the active dying process; and spiritual/emotional stabilization.

Weekly Rhythm Protocols

  • On-Site Strategy: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

  • Off-Site Strategy (Tue/Thu): Doula works remotely on legacy development and conducts a scheduled 15-minute phone check-in with client, the family, or hospice team.

  • Weekend Protocol: Care is paused. Messages or calls received over the weekend are answered on Monday morning by 10:00 AM.

  • Because each person's journey is unpredictable, the daily schedule shifts dynamically based on whether the client is in Tier A (Stable/Decline Phase) or Tier B (Active Transition Phase).

Communication Response

  • Response Window: Available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Messages received during these hours will get a response within 4 business hours.
