Stress Management

Stress is an inescapable part of life. Some stress can actually be beneficial. It is how the body reacts to harmful situations (either real or perceived) by preparing to act and protect itself. While our bodies are designed to handle small doses of stress, we are not equipped to handle long term, chronic stress without adverse mental and physical health consequences.

Stress should only be temporary or connected to a specific goal or event. Once the threat or moment of "fight-or-flight" has passed, your body should begin to return to its natural state with out any lasting negative effects. If left unchecked, severe, frequent, or prolonged stress can lead to:

  • High blood pressure
  • Increased heart rate
  • Headaches
  • Stomach and digestive issues
  • Chest pain
  • Sexual issues
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Heart disease
  • Muscle tension or pain
  • Dizziness
  • Increased breathing rate
  • Damaged blood vessels
  • Reproductive issues
  • Sleep issues
  • Fatigue
  • Weakened immune system
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Hypertension
  • Increased risk of stroke or heart attack
  • Weight gain
  • Migraines
  • Difficulty concentrating or brain fog
  • Memory problems

One of the best things you can do for yourself physically, mentally and emotionally is to manage your stress. It may sound easy, but you would be surprised by how few people know how to do it effectively. Certified Stress Management Consultant and Hypnotherapist, Nicole Hunter, will first help you identify the root of your stress and any secondary gains you may be receiving. Next, she will help you train your subconscious to successfully manage stress, respond to demanding or difficult situations appropriately, and build up your stress resilience.

Hypnotic Breathwork™

Hypnotic Breathwork™ was created by California Hypnotherapy Services founder, Nicole Hunter. This blended technique of Hypnosis and Pranayama (yoga breath) can help strengthen lungs and improve energy flow (chi) while addressing physical, mental, and emotional issues.

Breath is life but the stressors in life can diminish our breath. This can lead to habitual shallow breathing, causing a cascade of negative effects in the body and mind. Without even realizing it, we create a viscous cycle whereby stress causes shallow breathing and shallow breathing causes stress.

Did you know that when we experience stress our sympathetic nervous system sounds the alarm and triggers our fight-or-flight survival mode, which then activates mental and physical responses? Stress hormones flood the body producing physiological changes such as muscle tension, increased heart rate, higher blood pressure, and rapid breathing.

Hypnotic Breathwork™ first activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest, relax, and digest response) by utilizing a combination of yoga breathing techniques and vagus nerve stimulation. This helps restore the body to a composed state, producing a calm and relaxed feeling in the body and mind. Once the breath work is complete, we begin hypnosis.

The hypnosis portion of this session is tailor made just for you. Hypnosis allows the practitioner to bypass the critical mind and work directly with your emotions, memories, thoughts, and core beliefs to address the issues raised in your consultation. Once in a state of hypnosis, we employ visualizations and positive suggestions designed to achieve your goals.

Hypnotic Breathwork™ offers a multitude of benefits. It can reduce stress, anxiety, fears, and negative feelings about yourself or others. It can improve your outlook on life and encourage a healthier lifestyle. By connecting your mind, body and breath you can also help strengthen the immune system, increase energy, release tension and toxins, and improve sleep, digestion and posture.

Hypnotic Reikiwork™

Hypnotic Reikiwork™ was created by California Hypnotherapy Services founder, Nicole Hunter. This blended technique of Hypnosis and Reiki can bring about transformative and positive shifts in energy, health, and well-being.

It is believed dis-ease originates first in the energy body. Reiki uses Universal Life Force Energy to help remove these blocks and restore energy and balance. The subconscious mind holds our emotions, thoughts, memories, habits and core beliefs. Hypnotic Reikiwork™ allows us to communicate with the body-mind and release destructive blockages and emotions. It encourages you to deal with any underlying issues and balance energies carried through memory.

We encourage clients to keep an open mind about the process and try not to bring in any preconceived ideas of how it should be or feel. Everyone responds differently to Hypnosis and Reiki, and no two sessions are alike.

Your session begins with hypnosis, relaxing the body and tapping into the subconscious mind. This allows the practitioner to bypass the critical mind and work directly with emotions, memories, thoughts and core beliefs to address the issues raised in your consultation.

Once under hypnosis, the practitioner will begin Reiki. Universal Life Force Energy flows from them to you, as they move their hands above and around your body, from your head down to your toes, working on one specific area and one specific chakra at a time.

Once the practitioner feels that the energy in the body has been rebalanced, they will then circle back to the hypnotic visualizations and positive suggestions to integrate insights derived from the session. Your practitioner will then bring you out of hypnosis.

Hypnotic Reikiwork™ is a constructive therapeutic method that provides a rejuvenating energy session, leaving you more relaxed and balanced. Working together with subtle body energies and the subconscious mind, you can access and influence your own inherent wisdom to bring about profound change.

Hypnotic Dreamwork™

Created by renowned hypnotherapy teacher and HTI founder, Randall Churchill, Hypnotic Dreamwork™ is a combination of Gestalt dreamwork and hypnotherapy.
Gestalt dreamwork is based on the principle that every part of a dream is a projected aspect of the dreamer. Rather than analyzing the dream, you become the dream and all of its different parts. By using  Gestalt dialogue between dream characters you are, in effect, having dialogue between parts of yourself regarding significant issues.

"Becoming" different parts of the dream and acting out each character, allows you to gain valuable insight to yourself and your own existential experience.
By combining hypnosis with the dreamwork, the dreamer can go much deeper and tap into the inherent wisdom of their own subconscious mind. Hypnotic and post-hypnotic positive suggestions are used for further integration of the process.

Self-Confidence • Self-Esteem • Self-Worth

Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself. Self-confidence is how you feel about your abilities. Self-worth is believing that you're fundamentally worthy. One may have good self-esteem but low confidence, whereas another may have self-confidence in their abilities but not worthy of receiving praise.

It is often surprising for someone once they realize how their life is negatively effected because of a deficiency in any one of these areas. What's even more surprising is how quickly you can improve many aspects of your life just by simply eradicating perceived limitations and boosting one's Self. We can help with:

  • Self-love
  • Self-respect
  • Confidence
  • Healthy Self-esteem
  • Dignity
  • Understanding
  • Postive regard
  • Trust in abilities, judgement, qualities
  • Identifying situational confidence, esteem, worth

Social Media Dependence

Many people have come to the conclusion that they spend too much time scrolling their social media feeds. Excessive online exposure can steal happiness and self-esteem. Those seeking connection are actually feeling more and more isolated.

Much of the negative effects experienced from using social media have to do with social comparison and falling below the reference points we see. What does that mean? Well, when you view the world through the lens of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc, you're not getting an accurate representation of what other people are really like in the real world. You are most likely viewing a photoshopped version of idealized happiness - filtered images of people showcasing the best aspects of their life. Once you start comparing your own life to this social media world, you can quickly begin to feel inadequate. In fact, data now shows the more you use social media, the lower your self-esteem.

The good news is, we can help you fix your environment, get rid of temptations and break your social media habit. Learn how to:

  • Be present in your own life
  • Benefit from the experience rather than making the perfect picture
  • Eliminate social media dependence
  • Decrease screen time
  • Stop F.O.M.O. (fear of missing out)
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Discover the power of gratitude

Burnout

We are finally starting to hear more about burnout, but what is it? Burnout is a state of mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged, unresolved stress. It is often tied to being overworked and leads to individuals feeling overwhelmed, emotionally spent, and unable to meet unending demands.

In addition to the full spectrum of exhaustion, burnout can produce feelings of low trust and care for others as well as not feeling a sense of accomplishment, even when one is busy and getting a lot done. People may also feel a loss of meaning in one's work.

Burnout can affect anyone at any time. It tends to affect women slightly more than men. It is most common in ages between 25 and 44, and it is believed that 1 in 5 American workers experience burnout very often or always. Common signs of burnout include:

  • Social isolation
  • Feeling empty inside
  • Pessimistic outlook on life and work
  • Increased ailments, including headaches, and stomach/bowel issues
  • Desire to move away from family and friends
  • Neglecting personal needs
  • Escapist mentality and increase in escapist activities
  • Behavioral changes
  • Obsessing over problems in life or at work
  • Self-doubt
  • Focusing more on the negative

It should be noted that stress is not the same as burnout. Stress is short-lived or tied to a specific goal or event. Just as stress management is important to our well-being, addressing burnout is crucial to living healthier, more peaceful lives.

Mindfulness • Self-Care • Wellness

I'm often asked, "What is Mindfulness?" Simply put, mindfulness is focusing
your awareness on your thoughts, senses, feelings, and surrounding environment.
This practice can bring about a multitude of positive benefits.

Mindfulness, self-care and wellness are synergistically connected and can enhance and motivate one another. If you practice mindfulness and self-care, your wellness will increase. If you focus on wellness, you tend to self-care more frequently. You get the idea...

At California Hypnotherapy Services, we can help you implement these practices by learning strategies and setting objectives such as:

  • Intrinsic motivation
  • Gratitude
  • Time affluence
  • Nutritive eating
  • Acts of kindness
  • Flow
  • Collecting experience vs. stuff
  • Restful sleep
  • Creating a growth mindset
  • Discovering your signature strength
  • Savoring
  • Meditation
  • Positive affirmation
  • Exercise enjoyment
  • Self-Hypnosis

Amplify your overall well-being by incorporating these therapeutic techniques into your life. Studies show that individuals who practice mindfulness, self-care and wellness experience stress reduction, decreased blood pressure, better sleep, increased happiness and extended positive feelings. They get a boost in cognitive performance and even strengthen and build brain tissue.

That's right. Researchers at Harvard studied the size of gray matter in individuals who participated in an 8 week mindfulness-based stress reduction program. They discovered that the gray matter actually grew in certain regions of the brain, such as the cerebellum and cortex. This is incredibly exciting and all the more reason to develop your own mindfulness practice!

Hopelessness

Having hope is exceptionally important and a key component to living a healthy, happy life. Hope helps us have a positive outlook and clear vision for the future. It helps us create and maintain short-term and long-term goals. When we have hope, we feel a sense of purpose and meaning in our lives. Hope is the fertilizer for an optimistic state of mind.

Research shows that when we lose hope, our physical and mental health quickly decline. Fear, loss and worry can inhibit our ability to move forward and achieve our hopes. Disruption in the things that give meaning to our life such as work, socializing with family and friends, activities, and hobbies can have a negative impact on our level of hopefulness.

If you are feeling hopeless or can feel hope slipping away, we can help you:

  • Identify pathways to achieving hope

  • Recognize and address fears

  • Set or modify goals

  • Reduce stress

  • Practice mindfulness

  • Discover core talents & signature strengths

Sleep Issues

Sleep is essential to living a healthy, happy life. Science has proven that adequate sleep can benefit your heart, mind, weight, and more. From improved memory and focus to improved mood and stress reduction, better metabolism and lower blood pressure to a stronger immune system and inflammation reduction, getting a good night's sleep is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

Sleep disturbances can arise for various reasons. Patterns begin for a purpose, and for some reason (some reason that may still remain a mystery to your conscious mind, or a reason you already know), your subconscious mind decided  your sleep should be something less than peaceful, something less than restful. It may be doing its best to keep that pattern for you, because it thinks that’s what’s needed.

Hypnotherapy can help to create a new sleep pattern - a better sleep pattern - a sleep pattern to help you enjoy all of the benefits of a restful, refreshing, relaxing and restorative sleep that you so deeply desire and deserve.

Don't waste another night of restless sleep. We are here to help!

Pre-Op Prep/Post-Op Recovery

Surgery can feel like a big deal because quite often it is! Hypnotherapy can help prepare you to go into surgery with more tools to reduce stress, establish a mind-body connection, and alleviate negative thinking. Going into surgery feeling prepared and having a positive, calm and realistic attitude can help you  undergo surgery with greater ease.

Recovery can be very different for each person. We all have our own pain thresholds and levels of post-op care participation. Hypnotherapy can help people adopt better pain management skills and facilitate the healing process. Sessions can help clients focus on being gentle with themselves and enjoy the day-to-day progression rather than feeling overwhelmed or discouraged by the temporary setback surgery has imposed. Celebrating forward movement, no matter how small or large, is a necessary component for mindful healing. By having an expanded awareness of the mind-body connection and by actively participating in your healing journey, you can move into the future with renewed confidence and motivation to create the life you desire.

The world is finally talking about menoapuse!

"The change." Yes, it is real. Yes, it affects millions of women, each in different ways. Yes, there is help.

The topic that was once taboo is now dominating headlines. This comes as a massive relief to the women who have suffered in silence and those who are eager to manage and/or eliminate their unwanted symptoms.
