Stress Management
Stress is a natural and unavoidable part of life. In healthy amounts, stress can even be beneficial, helping the body respond to challenges, stay alert, and protect itself in potentially harmful situations. This built-in “fight-or-flight” response is designed to help us manage short-term demands or specific events. Sadly, busy, modern life means many of us live stuck in a "fight or flight" state, even when we're safe. While the body is equipped to handle temporary stress, it is not designed to remain in a constant state of tension or overwhelm. When stress becomes chronic, frequent, or unmanaged, it can begin to negatively impact both physical and emotional well-being. Prolonged stress has been linked to a wide range of health concerns, including: • High blood pressure • Increased heart rate • Headaches and migraines • Digestive and stomach issues • Chest pain • Muscle tension • Chronic pain • Fatigue and low energy • Sleep disturbances • Anxiety and depression • Difficulty concentrating • Brain fog • Memory problems • Weight gain or loss • Weakened immune function • Increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes • Reproductive and sexual health concerns Managing stress is one of the most important investments you can make in your overall physical, mental, and emotional health. Yet for many people, reducing stress is far more challenging than simply “relaxing” or “thinking positively.” Nicole Hunter is a Certified Stress Management Consultant through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists. She works collaboratively with clients to identify the underlying causes of stress, recognize any subconscious patterns or secondary gains associated with it, and develop healthier responses to life’s challenges. Through hypnotherapy and stress management techniques, clients can learn to retrain the subconscious mind, improve emotional resilience, respond more effectively to difficult situations, and regain a greater sense of calm, balance, and control in everyday life.
Hypnotic Breathwork
Hypnotic Breathwork was created by Higher Wellbeing founder, Nicole Hunter. This blended technique of Hypnosis and Pranayama (yogic breath) can help strengthen lungs and improve energy flow (chi) while addressing physical, mental, and emotional issues. Breath is life but the stressors in life can diminish our breath. This can lead to habitual shallow breathing, causing a cascade of negative effects in the body and mind. Without even realizing it, we create a viscous cycle whereby stress causes shallow breathing and shallow breathing causes stress. Did you know that when we experience stress our sympathetic nervous system sounds the alarm and triggers our fight-or-flight survival mode, which then activates mental and physical responses? Stress hormones flood the body producing physiological changes such as muscle tension, increased heart rate, higher blood pressure, and rapid breathing. Hypnotic Breathwork first activates the parasympathetic nervous system, our rest, relax, and digest response, by utilizing a combination of yogic breathing techniques and vagus nerve stimulation. This can help restore the body to a composed state, producing a calm and relaxed feeling in the body and mind. Once the breath work is complete, we begin hypnosis. Hypnosis allows the practitioner to bypass the critical mind and work directly with the subconscious, which is the seat of your emotions, memories, thoughts, and core beliefs. Once in a state of hypnosis, we employ visualizations and positive suggestions designed to achieve your goals. Discover for yourself the many benefits of Hypnotic Breathwork.
Burnout
Burnout has become firmly rooted in our modern lexicon, but what is it? Burnout is a state of mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged, unresolved stress. It is often tied to being overworked and leads to individuals feeling overwhelmed, emotionally spent, and unable to meet unending demands. In addition to the full spectrum of exhaustion, burnout can produce feelings of low trust and care for others as well as not feeling a sense of accomplishment, even when one is busy and getting a lot done. People may also feel a loss of meaning in one's work. Burnout can affect anyone, but research shows it most commonly impacts adults in high-demand, high-responsibility stages of life and work. The groups most affected tend to include: • Professionals in high-stress careers (healthcare workers, teachers, first responders, executives, entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and caregivers) • Parents and caregivers balancing multiple responsibilities • People in helping professions who experience emotional exhaustion and compassion fatigue • Individuals with perfectionist tendencies or high personal expectations • Remote workers and employees with blurred work-life boundaries • Young professionals navigating career pressure and financial stress In terms of age, burnout is most commonly reported among adults between approximately 25 and 45 years old, though it can occur at any age. Recent studies suggest younger generations, particularly Millennials and Gen Z adults, report especially high levels of workplace stress, emotional exhaustion, and burnout symptoms. Contributing factors often include economic pressure, constant digital connectivity, social expectations, and difficulty disconnecting from work. That said, burnout is increasingly recognized across all age groups, including: • College and graduate students • Midlife adults managing careers, parenting, and caregiving simultaneously • Older adults experiencing caregiver fatigue, chronic stress, or professional exhaustion later in life. Common signs of burnout include: • Social isolation • Feeling empty inside • Pessimistic outlook on life and work • Increased ailments, including headaches, and stomach/bowel issues • Desire to move away from family and friends • Neglecting personal needs • Escapist mentality and increase in escapist activities • Behavioral changes • Obsessing over problems in life or at work • Self-doubt • Focusing more on the negative It should be noted that stress is not the same as burnout. Stress is short-lived or tied to a specific goal or event. Just as stress management is important to our well-being, addressing burnout is crucial to living healthier, more peaceful lives.

Hypnotic Reikiwork
Hypnotic Reikiwork was created by Higher Wellbeing founder, Nicole Hunter. This blended technique of Hypnosis and Reiki can bring about transformative and positive shifts in energy, health, and well-being. It is believed dis-ease originates first in the energy body. Reiki uses Universal Life Force Energy to help remove these blocks and restore energy and balance. The subconscious mind holds our emotions, thoughts, memories, habits and core beliefs. Hypnotic Reikiwork allows us to communicate with the body-mind in an effort to release destructive blockages and emotions. This powerful work also encourages clients to address any underlying issues and balance energies carried through memory. We encourage clients to keep an open mind about the process and try not to bring in any preconceived ideas of how it should be or feel. Everyone responds differently to Hypnosis and Reiki, and no two sessions are alike. Your session begins with hypnosis, relaxing the body and tapping into the subconscious mind. This allows the practitioner to bypass the critical mind and work directly with emotions, memories, thoughts and core beliefs to address the issues raised in your consultation. Once in a state of hypnosis, the practitioner will begin Reiki. Universal Life Force Energy flows from them to you, as they move their hands above and around your body, from your head down to your toes, working on one specific area and one specific chakra at a time. Once the practitioner feels that the energy in the body has been rebalanced, they will restart hypnotic visualizations and positive suggestions to integrate insights derived from the session. Your practitioner will then bring you out of hypnosis. Hypnotic Reikiwork is a complementary wellness practice that provides a rejuvenating energy session, leaving you more relaxed and balanced. Working together with subtle body energies and the subconscious mind, you can access and influence your own inherent wisdom to bring about profound change. Mindfulness + Self-Care
I'm often asked, "What is Mindfulness?" Simply put, mindfulness is focusing your awareness on your thoughts, senses, feelings, and surrounding environment. Mindfulness and intentional self-care are more than simple wellness trends; they are evidence-based practices shown to support emotional balance, stress reduction, mental clarity, improved sleep, physical health, and overall resilience. When practiced consistently, they can help create a greater sense of calm, focus, and well-being in everyday life. Mindfulness, self-care and wellness are synergistically connected and can enhance and motivate one another. If you practice mindfulness and self-care, your wellness will increase. If you focus on wellness, you tend to self-care more frequently. You get the idea. At Higher Wellbeing, we can help you implement these practices by learning strategies and setting objectives such as: • Intrinsic motivation • Practicing gratitude • Time affluence • Nutritive eating • Acts of kindness • Flow • Collecting experience vs. stuff • Restful sleep • Creating a growth mindset • Discovering your signature strength • Savoring • Meditation • Positive affirmation + self talk • Exercise enjoyment • Self-hypnosis Research has shown that consistent mindfulness and self-care practices can provide meaningful benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Some evidence-based benefits include: • Reduced stress and lower cortisol levels • Improved emotional regulation and resilience • Decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression • Better sleep quality and improved relaxation • Enhanced focus, concentration, and mental clarity • Lower blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health • Reduced inflammation and strengthened immune function • Increased self-awareness and self-compassion • Greater sense of balance, calm, and overall well-being • Improved coping skills during challenging situations • Reduced emotional reactivity and overwhelm • Increased energy and reduced fatigue • Healthier relationships and improved communication • Better work-life balance and decreased risk of burnout •Improved memory and cognitive functioning Researchers at Harvard studied the size of gray matter in individuals who participated in an 8 week mindfulness-based stress reduction program. They discovered that the gray matter actually grew in certain regions of the brain, such as the cerebellum and cortex. Mindfulness practices have also been associated with measurable changes in areas of the brain involved in attention, emotional regulation, and stress response. Likewise, intentional self-care practices help support long-term mental, emotional, and physical health by encouraging rest, recovery, healthy boundaries, and nervous system regulation. This is incredibly exciting and all the more reason to develop your own mindfulness practice!
Social Media Dependence
Many people have come to the conclusion that they spend too much time scrolling their social media feeds. Excessive online exposure can begin stealing an individual's happiness and self-esteem. People seeking connection are actually feeling more and more isolated. Much of the negative effects experienced from using social media stem from social comparison and falling below the perceived reference points. What does that mean? Well, when someone views the world through the lens of their social media platform, they're not getting an accurate representation of what other people are truly like in the "real world." They are most likely seeing a photoshopped version of idealized happiness or highly curated images of people showcasing what they want you to believe are the best aspects of their life. Once someone starts comparing their own life to the online world, they can quickly begin to feel inadequate. In fact, data shows the more one uses social media, the lower their self-esteem. A widely cited study published in JAMA Network found that adolescents who spent more than three hours per day on social media faced a significantly higher risk of developing mental health problems, particularly symptoms related to anxiety and depression. Another clinically important finding involves sleep disruption. Research from organizations such as American Psychological Association and sleep medicine journals has shown that excessive social media use, especially before bedtime, can interfere with melatonin production, delay sleep onset, reduce sleep quality, and contribute to chronic fatigue and mood instability. Neuroscience research has also demonstrated that social media platforms can activate the brain’s dopamine-based reward system in ways similar to other behavioral addictions. Features such as notifications, likes, scrolling, and intermittent rewards can reinforce compulsive checking behaviors and contribute to dependence patterns. Learn how to: • Be present in your own life • Limit taking photos • Combat online temptation • Fix your environment * Decrease screen time * Reject F.O.M.O. (fear of missing out) * Increase self-esteem * Discover the power of gratitude
Sleep Focus Care
Sleep is essential to overall health and well-being. Research consistently shows that quality sleep supports nearly every aspect of physical and mental wellness , from improved memory, focus, and emotional balance to healthier metabolism, lower blood pressure, enhanced immune function, and reduced inflammation. Simply put, restorative sleep is one of the most powerful foundations for a healthier, happier life. Sleep difficulties can develop for many reasons. Often, patterns of restless or disrupted sleep begin as the mind and body attempt to respond to stress, anxiety, habits, or past experiences. Over time, these patterns can become deeply ingrained within the subconscious mind, continuing even when they are no longer helpful. Hypnotherapy works by helping you gently retrain those subconscious patterns, creating healthier associations with sleep and relaxation. Through this process, it becomes possible to establish a new, more supportive sleep pattern, one that encourages deep, restful, restorative sleep and allows you to wake feeling refreshed, renewed, and energized. You do not have to continue struggling through restless nights and exhausted days. With the right support, peaceful and restorative sleep is possible. Discover how hypnotherapy can help you achieve the restful sleep you deserve.
Self Compassion+
Self Compassion allows loving acceptance of oneself that is free from criticism and judgement and instead fosters emotional intelligence through forgiveness, caring and a deep understanding of the holistic self. One may have good self-esteem but low confidence, whereas another may have self-confidence in their abilities but not worthy of receiving praise. It is often surprising for someone once they realize how their life is negatively effected because of a deficiency in any one of these areas. What's even more surprising is how quickly you can improve many aspects of your life just by simply eradicating perceived limitations and boosting one's Self. We can help with: • Self-compassion |Self-love • Self-respect • Self-confidence • Healthy self-esteem • Dignity • Understanding • Postive regard • Trust in abilities, judgement, qualities • Identifying situational confidence, esteem, worth
Pre Op Prep + Post Op Healing
Surgery can feel like a big deal because often it is! Hypnotherapy can help you prepare with more tools to reduce stress, tune into the mind-body connection, and alleviate negative thinking. Clients who feel prepared and have a positive, calm, and realistic mindset may undergo surgery with greater ease. Recovery is a deeply personal journey, and the healing process varies from person to person. Each individual experiences pain differently and approaches post-operative care with their own unique needs, challenges, and pace of recovery. Hypnotherapy can be a valuable complementary tool for supporting pain management, relaxation, and the healing process after surgery. Sessions are designed to help clients develop healthier coping strategies, reduce stress, and cultivate greater patience and compassion for themselves throughout recovery. Rather than becoming discouraged by temporary limitations, clients are encouraged to focus on steady progress and recognize the importance of every step forward, no matter how small. Celebrating daily improvements and maintaining a positive, mindful outlook can play an important role in emotional and physical healing. By strengthening awareness of the mind-body connection and taking an active role in the recovery process, individuals can move forward with renewed confidence, motivation, and a greater sense of empowerment as they return to the life they envision for themselves.
Emotional + Body Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Emotional intelligence or emotional quotient is the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and respond to emotions in a healthy and productive way, both within yourself and in your interactions with others. It involves self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, communication skills, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and balance. In today’s fast-paced and overstimulating world, many people spend so much time reacting to stress, responsibilities, and external pressures that they lose connection with their emotional needs and internal experiences. Developing emotional intelligence helps create greater awareness of emotional patterns, triggers, behaviors, and coping mechanisms, allowing individuals to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. Strengthening emotional intelligence can support: • Improved stress management • Healthier relationships and communication • Increased self-awareness and self-confidence • Better emotional regulation and resilience • Reduced anxiety and emotional overwhelm • Greater empathy and interpersonal connection • Enhanced decision-making and problem-solving skills • A deeper sense of balance, calm, and overall well-being Building emotional intelligence is an important part of personal growth and wellness. When individuals learn to understand and honor their emotional experiences without judgment, they often feel more grounded, empowered, and capable of navigating life with greater confidence and emotional stability. Body Intelligence (BI) Body intelligence is the ability to tune into and understand the body’s signals, sensations, and physical responses. It involves developing awareness of how the body communicates through tension, fatigue, pain, energy levels, posture, breathing patterns, and emotional sensations. The body and mind are deeply connected. Chronic stress, unresolved emotions, poor sleep, overwhelm, and unhealthy coping patterns can all manifest physically within the body. Likewise, physical discomfort and nervous system dysregulation can significantly impact emotional and mental well-being. Many people become disconnected from their bodies over time, ignoring signs of exhaustion, stress, burnout, or emotional strain until symptoms become difficult to manage. Developing body intelligence encourages individuals to slow down, become more mindful, and recognize the body’s early warning signals before they escalate into deeper physical or emotional challenges. Strengthening body intelligence may help support: • Improved stress awareness and nervous system regulation • Better sleep and relaxation Increased mindfulness and present-moment awareness • Enhanced emotional awareness through physical cues • Reduced physical tension and chronic stress patterns • Greater energy management and self-care awareness • Healthier boundaries and lifestyle choices • A stronger mind-body connection and overall wellness By learning to listen to the body with greater awareness and compassion, individuals can make more intentional choices that support long-term physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Building body intelligence encourages a more balanced, connected, and mindful approach to health and self-care.
